Along the route

From Giurgiu, on the Romanian bank of the Danube, the ship calls at Rousse, known as the Little Paris of the East, and the Bulgarian river town of Vidin before threading the Iron Gates gorge, where limestone cliffs rise sheer from the water. Belgrade, Serbia’s spirited capital, is followed by Vukovar and Mohács. In Budapest, Buda’s Castle District and Pest’s grand boulevards sit either side of the Danube, meeting at the Shoes on the Danube Bank memorial. The route continues to Bratislava, where cobblestone streets and a hilltop castle look down over the river, then Vienna, the city of waltzes, and the Wachau Valley village of Weissenkirchen, before Linz and the final stop at Vilshofen in Bavaria.
